Dual Language

While Herod's Magnet program is Vanguard, we are proud to also offer HISD's first Dual Language program which started in 1994. Herod’s Dual Language Program is a Bilingual Program model whereby an equal combination of English Language Learners (ELL) and fluent English speaking students are taught together to develop full bilingualism and bi-literacy for both groups. The program is designed to teach children a second language in a natural way through subject content instruction and classroom conversation.

All participating students receive instruction in language arts and content subjects primarily in Spanish in the early grades (K-2), and gradually increase their English instruction until reaching a level of proficiency in both languages that leads to a 50% Spanish/ 50% English curriculum in grades 3-5.

Dual Language students at Herod will develop fluency and literacy in Spanish and English, achieve proficiency in all academic subjects, meeting or exceeding district guidelines, and acquire an understanding and appreciation of other cultures.

Parent involvement is an integral part of the program. Parents are considered their child's first teacher and are encouraged to become actively involved in their child's education.

Tours will be held every Thursday morning at 9:00 AM. 2025-2026 tour dates have not yet been set.
